christmas and family

It's always a busy time: christmas.

We've had fun christmasdays, and it was nice to see so many family members when visiting around a bit.

I think I gained 30 kilos. LOL!
There were so many special things to eat and nice drinks to drink.

Tomorrow morning we'll leave for my friend's family.
I don't feel at home there as much as my friend feels at home at my family.
Each time I feel like lending a hand I feel awkward, and they act like I'm offering something strange.
But I'm so used to help out at everything that needs to be done.

Well, we'll see.
I've repacked the bags, done the laundry and we're set to go.

Snow and more white

When I came back from the birthday celebration we enjoyed the snow.
It was so beautiful in the light of the streetlanterns.

(Mizé, it wasn't my own birthday.)

My plan was to go to family today.
Even though the trains had an adapted plan which was half the normal schedule I thought I could make it.

But when I woke up there was so much snow and a snow- and traffic alarm sounded from the radio.

No busses in town until 12, then it would be reviewed.
Almost no trains.

So no way to leave, as I needed the busses on my side and on the other side.

During the day we got at least 10 cm more snow, so I took a walk instead and enjoyed a good snowfight with friends.

The dinnerinvitation I rejected last week was still available.
So I went and with friends I had a good time, telling snowstories by the candlelight.

It's advised for tomorrow not to travel.
For the first time a negative travel-advice two days in a row.

Well, I don't really mind.

Neelie Kroes is a highly valued commissioner for competition in the European Union.
She knows how to deal with companies like Microsoft, Intel and Oracle, and how to make them stick to the rules of fair competition.

With the new round of the political dance of the chairs she's got ICT.

To be honest, I'm thrilled about that!

I hope she's going to deal with international copyright issues, with spam and new legislation for internet.

pancakes fresh and warm

Some old fashioned habits are very usefull.

When I was young my mom made pancakes and one after another was put on a plate until she had a tower with plat pancaked.
Those at the bottom were strangely compressed and flat, and they didn't taste well anymore.

Yesterday one of the women I baked pancakes with too a huge soup pan and taught me how to keep the pancakes warm and looking fresh.

When a pancake was ready she made a roll of it and put it standing up in the pan.
Loads of them could stay in there and there was only place for one other role on top.
Because the bottom layer consisted of pancakes leaning against each other, leaving no room to topple over, the second layer didn't push them together.

Very clever!!!

2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro

Good news for Rio de Janeiro.

For the first time in history the Olympic Games will be held in South America.

We had a bet here and I've won!!

I'm sure my reasons are different from those of the committee who had to chose.

When I heard Madrid was the other option I know that when there would be a choice between the risk of terrorist attacks and impulsive crowds, the choice would be clear.

One of my friends lives in Rio and I'm sure she's very happy.

I hope life's circumstances of those who live there will improve the coming years.
